Harold and I were so excited to travel to Cape Town for the graduation ceremony which took place in Bellville, close to where we used to live. Wesley looked so handsome in his graduation gown and was so happy to finally be graduating.
After the congratulating and wishes, we headed to Chocolat Bistro in Durbanville, to celebrate with a luncheon under the oak trees. Chocolat is a luxurious French affair, and lavishly decorated. What a treat! The service was excellent and our lunch was delicious.
After our sumptuous meal we found ourselves in a fabulous vintage shop called Plan B Vintage My chandelier was waiting for me.
The story does not end here! No tears were shed (yet) …
I knew this chandelier belonged in my home in my dining room, above the dining room table. It would be a reminder of this special day, for which Wesley had been waiting for, and had worked so hard towards. It was carefully packaged and ready to fly with us to our home in the sandpit.
Weighing in at 12.8kg was the reason for the tears - we were hopelessly overweight when checking in at departures at Cape Town International Airport. One chandelier, 1 bicycle, 5 suitcases – something had to remain behind.
Boxed for 1 year it remained safely stored in Cape Town, in our children’s home, before it finally reached its destination. It took a few weeks after unboxing as Harold carefully refurbished my vintage chandelier and meticulously cleaned it before hanging it himself.
But before my vintage chandelier went up, the old chandelier had to be removed – at last, thankfully.
On my next visit home I foresee another visit to Plan B Vintage 😉
