How my Quilt became a Passion Project
The motivation for finishing my quilt and was not what I thought would motivate me, nor did I realize it would become my "Passion Project."
When I saw the most exquisite fabric in my favourite fabric shop Thimbles it was the catalyst to the start of something I never dreamt would come into being.
From Durbanville to Doha, the fabric travelled with me, where the planning and designing started.
As the project unfolded, it was clear that white fabric was needed to complement the design, but I could not find what I wanted.
EPIPHANY MOMENT
Lying in the bottom of my sideboard was a damask tablecloth that belonged to my mom, which was their wedding present from over 50 years ago. It was the worse for wear, but it carried so many memories of countless meals that my mom served and which we had enjoyed while using the tablecloth.
From Doha to Durbanville it travelled again, to be finally professionally quilted together (sandwiched together).
And back to Doha where it is used daily.
I wish my mom had seen the final product; I know she would have appreciated it. Her memory lives on in my quilt and in my heart.
A Quilt of Passion indeed it is; my special friend Jenny, quite aptly named my quilt when I shared the story with her.
